If you are in the possession of a Chevrolet Cobalt 2005 to 2010 model or a Pontiac G5 2007 to 2010 which was sold in the United States then your vehicle has been issued a safety recall on a voluntary basis. This also applies to General Motors Pontiac Pursuit 2005 to 2006 model that was sold in Canada. This accounts for more than 1 million vehicles that need their power steering replaced.

A spokesperson commented on this issue on behalf of General Motors saying that this condition takes time to display symptoms which is why it has taken so long to learn of the problem and issue a recall. He also stated that the problem will tend to only occur in models that are no longer covered under warranty.

It is important to make note of the fact that the vehicles will still have steering abilities. They will have more issues when it comes to control if they are driving less than 15 mph. If you are having this problem there will be a message coming up on your dashboard.
