Same Sex Marriage in Washington
On Tuesday Washington became the sixth state to recognize the union between same sex partners. When the court house opened at 6am the next morning no one seemed to mind the rain coming down they were all just happy that they were able to apply to get a marriage license. For many this has been a dream of a lifetime and now it has finally come true.
Washington along with Iowa, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont all now recognize same sex marriages. The passing of this law has taken a long time and many have been fighting for this for many years. It has survived attempts to block it by congress, and the Supreme Courts attempt to delay it. Even though the law was signed in December it had to go through a review by congress before it could become official. This ended Tuesday and the law was officially passed.
This law is already having implications all over the state. There are many organizations that are changing their health care benefits so as to limit partners from receiving help.
