Canadian scientists have been using a rather unique way in which to study marine biology in the deep oceans. They are using dead pig’s bodies, which have been taken from butchers shops. These pigs have become a very useful tool for experiments in the ocean and have come back with some very interesting new information.

The scientists who were doing their research were looking at zones of low oxygen in the ocean. In these areas there are many scavenger creatures and using the pig is what has allowed the researchers to study the scavengers up close. These scavengers are a very important part of the world. They are what allow different things to regenerate.

These low oxygen areas are caused from the runoff that comes from farming land and is extremely nutrient rich. This then feeds the algae growing in the ocean. If the algae die it will consume large amounts of the oxygen in the area. This in the worst case scenario creates a low oxygen zone which will prevent creatures from living there or they may be unable to move away and will die.
